About our Classes

  1. What do they do in class?

Please click on to the relevent course link below to find out more about what goes on in class. Courses available are:
    Play Stage
    Adult Classes
    The Fun Factory
    Drama Classes
    Holiday Programmes
    The Theatre Workshop

  2. Do you teach speech?

Yes and No! We do not drill the students with speech exercises in order to permanently alter accents or diminish dialect. However, to be a performer, a student needs to be able to have a versatile and expressive voice and clear speech. As the student gains experience, and takes on more demanding roles, voice training becomes an increasingly important element of training.

  3. Do all students get a chance to perform?

All students in the drama programme from Stage 1 upwards get the chance to perform. The third term in our year (April to July) is a performance term. Each class will select a piece of work from the previous two terms and produce it as a performance piece.

The Theatre Workshop and Adult Drama students have separate performance projects.

  4. How will drama benefit my child? What will they learn?

Drama is of value to everyone, not only to those who wish to become performers. It improves and develops confidence, awareness, expression, concentration, problem solving, motivation and promotes the use of unique thinking styles.

It also teaches the valuable skills needed for work and leisure: interaction with others, creativity, spontaneity, flexibility, adaptability and good judgement.

Social bonding is also promoted, as cooperation is essential to many activities in drama, music and movement.

  5. Do you have trial classes?

No. Drama, is NOT a spectator sport, unless the students have been properly prepared for performance. We aim to create a safe environment in which students feel secure enough to push the boundaries of their own percieved capabilities. If people watch the class, then this safety is destroyed and progress is halted.

We do, however, have a "trial period". From one to three weeks, if you feel that the class is not for you, then let us know and we will refund you for the classes you have not attended and refund your deposit.

  6. Do you have open classes?

Once a year, we have "Performance Week", usually in June. This is when parents can come to see their children perform selected material from the year's work. This is annual rather than termly as rehearsals take time and we do not wish to abandon the creative process by having to rush the production of a performance piece.

  7. Do the students take exams?

In the regular drama classes, no. However, we do run "Guildhall Examination Classes" for those interested in either Acting, Speech, Presentation Skills or Speech and Drama. Please contact Peter or Ali for Details.

  8. How many students in a class?

All Drama and Play Stage students have a maximum of 12. Art and Craft have a maximum of 8. Classes for children under 5 years also have an assistant teacher.
