Centre Stage School of the Arts

We founded Centre Stage School of the Arts in 1999 to create an environment in which children can use drama to explore both the imaginative and the concrete world.

We started our careers as two London based actors, and very soon found our work to be dominated by educational and children's theatre. It was a natural progression then to build on experience and qualify as Speech and Drama teachers.

We have been teaching drama in Singapore since 1995 and it became apparent that there was a distinct lack of classes that dealt with acting and performance skills.

The aim was to create the "drama club" style of class so readily available in the UK, Australia and the US. This could only be done with a team of experienced facilitators. The strength of the school is in its staff. All of the full time teachers trained primarily as actors and completed full time courses in UK drama schools, they have all worked and continue to work in the theatre and on television. In addition, they are fully qualified speech and drama teachers and have gained university degrees in Theatre. This combination of experience, practical application and theoretical expertise allows students a rich and vivid understanding of the numerous applications of drama.

With our centre at River Valley Road, Centre Stage now offers Parent & Toddler, Art and Craft and Drama classes for children as well as Acting, Speech and Drama, Voice, Art classes for adults and tailor made classes for both teenagers and adults.

Why Drama

Drama is of value to everyone, not only to those who wish to become performers. It improves and develops confidence, awareness, expression, concentration, problem solving, motivation and promotes the use of unique thinking styles.

It also teaches the valuable skills needed for work and leisure: interaction with others, creativity, spontaneity, flexibility, adaptability and good judgement.

Social bonding is also promoted, as cooperation is essential to many activities in drama, music and movement.
